As some of you know I like to try new things for camp cooking, one pot meals being a favourite so I've being trying Old El Paso Fajitas.

Not bad at all, you need the pack plus 750g of chicken, 1 onion and 2 peppers, spoon full of oil and off you go. There is a good shelf life on these things, you get a pack of seasoning powder and a pack of chopped toms plus 8 'wraps'

If you've not used them you slice up the chicken breast and fry, add sliced peppers and onion and fry, add the two packs of what comes with the 'kit' and add to heated wraps; a really easy meal for one pan.

If you freeze down your chicken (I would slice at home then freeze) and zip lock it then insulate it would be safe enough to eat on day two of your camp in all but the hottest weather (just my opinion). Slice your peppers and onion at home too and you have a fast meal for your first night.

If you have a second pot to spare you can really 'pad' this meal out with some boiled rice. Cook the rice and add the cooked meat etc; you have a kind of chunky chicken risotto.

There are different flavours but really they are all in the same theme. Often on special offer and you can just buy the powder mix and then your own wraps/toms.

Cost to feed three or four
Chicken £5
Old El Paso Fajitas £2
Peppers and onions 75p
Kilo of rice (Tesco Value) 40p
£8.15 and will feed four so not a bad price (feed three without the rice).

Ooh that sounds tasty! Thanks for sharing that, may well be giving them a go for a tread when I'm in the canoe! :)

Personally, I like beef fajitas better. But in either case, if you find your own recipe for the seasoning and buy the tortillas separately it might (or might not) be cheaper than a kit.

Here's a few for chicken fajitas:

For beef fajitas, just substitute beef boullion cubes for the chicken boullion cubes.

Had these a few times and they are nice. No idea why I didnt consider making them in the woods instead.

Thanks Rik.

These are one of my favourite in the woods, tho I profess to liking the less spicey "smokey BBQ" ones rather than the "roasted tomato and pepper" which I find a little too challenging.

instant refried beans is another side dish to extend this meal - I usually use the Santa Fe Bean Co. product - see pic: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91aFrXnYn5L._SL1500_.jpg - hopefully this product is available in the UK

To be honest, fajitas are never served as a complete meal in and of themselves. If served alone from a street vendor, they're just a snack; if served in a full Mexican restaurant, they're the meain entree and are always accompanied by spanish rice and refried beans as well as guacamole and lettuce.

The refried beans? LOL. I love 'em. But I eat too much Mexican food already. mexican restaurants are as common here as Chinese take-out is there.

I have these alot in the house and it has never occurred to me to have them while out probably though that they were too much faff but it could be done in one pan, will have a go when I am out later in the year.

For me though I have two fajitas and thats a meal I don't tend to do the extras with it.

I picked up the Schwartz flavour shot for Fajitas the other week, I think I'll give it a trial tonight :)
