I have got a old leather belt. i was thinking i could make some sort of sheath, but i was wondering how, and whether there was anything else i could make.

Whats wrong with the belt, that makes it no longer serviceable?
how wide/long is it?
What tools do you have available?
A sheath will probably be difficult/impossible without a lot of faffing on, at least for a "full size" knife anyway.

why not keep it as a belt but do some carving work on it, that would take a while and challenge you I'll bet
