Tomorrow is my first self guided hike since I left the scouts about 6 years ago.

Aha.

Nah thought I'd take the remote, will be useful at lunch for the 50" telly I'm gonna take along.

Any chance you can tell us what the kit is? It's difficult to see exactly what a rolled up DPM thing is.

What's your plan for the trip? Just a short hike from your car? Or a full day hiking cross country across the Beacons?

I'd think about bringing a few more things if I were you. No compass? No waterproofs? No daysack? No bivvy or survival blanket? You may appreciate some more (hot) food and drink too....

It's just a day hike on a well used tourist track, about 13.5k, so I'm not too worried about survival as such. Just taking enough to stay warm and comfortable plus enough spare clothes so that if I fall in one of the 2 rivers we'll be following then I have something to change into.

O well, a day hike is better than no hike at all I suppose .....I don't think you'll risk being cold with that lot ....but do tell, what pack will you be using,?

NATO field backpack in black, not sure of the litreage but it packs in alot and is pretty comfy.

Just got back, over 7 hours up and down.

I think OS need to update their maps, I was lead to believe the route we took would be on footpaths, not rivers.

Absolutely drenched.

I can do better than that mate:

We took a couple of wrong turns so added a good couple of k in the wrong direction, but we followed that exact route eventually. Starting at 'C', Dinas Rock.
