Further south than that wingstoo, other edge of the park.

Yeah Meindl Desert Fox. Survived an ankle deep river crossing near the start of the day with no leaks, but a couple hours of muck and bog later they were wet through.

I got them for free so I can't complain.

Not on that map, Wingstoo. Start point is close to the heads of the valleys road, A465, near Hirwaun, west of Merthyr Tydfil. Point D on Million's map is Pontneddfechan. Somewhat south of Brecon.

Lovely part of the world, and one I haven't explored enough. Can imagine it being a tad damp after rain though.

The Taff Trail walks north of Merthyr are quite good too, and is often used as a starting point for going up Pen y Fan the short way, but the car parks have a reputation for being an unsafe place to leave a vehicle. The break-in rate is rather high. :( Puts me off going. I tend to stick to the Talybont end.

It was the "Off to Brecon" bit that threw me.

We did a walk over Black Mountain (Nr Dan-yr-orgof) to find the Aircraft wreck about 14 years ago, lovely day out, a fortnight later we went back and had to abandon after less than two miles as the weather changed and after one river crossing earlier (it wasn't there two weeks earlier) we got soaked enough to sday "enoughs enough".

Only a few miles from this place to the West over Carreg Goch, it is a great walk to do and heading NE you get to the top of a valley with a bit of a drop off the edge at Fan hir.

Might be worth a walk that side sometime.

Ah sorry bud, 'brecon' is just my shorthand for 'Brecon Beacons National Park', didn't mean the village.

Me and my hiking buddy are planning to walk at-least once or twice a month for the next 6 months or so, building up to a 100 miler from one side of the park to the other hopefully in Easter. So we'll have plenty of opportunities to check out a number of walks in the area.

New visitor centre and expensive car parking charges! At least they're looking at dedicated parking for mountain rescue. Hopefully with a mains power hookup :)
