Anyone out there who has the skills to forge a No5 Bookbinders hammer?

Its basically a very big cobblers hammer with a 2" polished face and a wedge 3" long 2" wide. I need three of them. This a victorian tool which sadly is no longer made.

Thanks Weaver, I have already spoken to David at Hewits. The Hewits hammer is a a 12oz hammer what I am after is the the traditional Victorian one its called a no 5 and is 20 oz in weight. Fundamentally its for much bigger books!

Talk to Dave Budd. He specialises in making tools that are no longer readily available.

He's a member here I believe (and definitely on British Blades) so should be easy to contact.

HI, sadly I can't do anything at the moment as I don't have a workshop :( I'm building a new one from scratch and it won't be ready until february at this rate!

I have a feeeling that the hammer would be a challenge with hand tools (I don't have a power hammer), so I may not be able to do it justice in anycase, though I'm always game for a laugh! I may know of somewhere that you can get one from, but I'll have a look ;)

I had a chat with Dave and he is building what sounds lif an 'eco-forge' beaten clay floors etc in the middle of a wood. Sounds like an oppertunity for spot of trading/swapies. He needs so digging done, stumps removed etc, etc might need bags of lime as well.

So if you are up for some hard work you might want to drop him a line, how about a meet and build dave?
