hi all,
thank you to Karl for inviting me to your private unsheduled birthday bash at North Wood. :)

albeit a bit nippy on the night (for most of us, eh martin? :rolleyes: ) it was well recieved by everyone who got stuck in with the various activities arranged to keep us warm!. this included;

a bit of woodland maintenance in the form of cutting the ivy from some heavily encumbered trees before the wind took them, (and making hearth boards from them)
firewood collecting to maintain stocks for the communal fire,
general windfall tidying.

other things arranged or inpromptu,

target practice with air rifles,
hide flesching (Sal bought several deer hides in for preparation)
cooking class, Karl treated us all to a traditional South African dish, very nice too mate :)
Sal bought in a gorgeous home made chocolate cake for the greedy gits birthday :)
jason and Sam provided a full filleted salmon for us, which was lovely!
hazle wood coppicing.
bimble around organising forward planning schedules.

everone enjoyed their invite to Karls private birthday bash so once again buddy thank you for organising this meet :D
heres a few pictures...

looks like every one had a good time, I must admit to raising an eyebrow over the removal of the Ivy from trees from an ecological point of view. As this can be an important habitat and not usually needs doing in a woodland setting.

which is why we were selective, and only targeted the heaviest. its quite an open wood and the extra weight and wind resistance is bringing the bigger ash down. i too am very aware of the ecological standpoint, but thanks for your concern. and yes we had a great time :)
