As the thread title says this useful knot can be used instead of a spool tool.

It is a bit of a fiddly knot to learn at first but as with anything practice makes perfect. After about a dozen or so goes I can do it perfectly every time now.

Sufficientia Sufficiens, “Adequacy Suffices” is my life creed.
I use as little battery equipment as is practical, all my power tools (except one) are 240 volt mains.
All my tool cables are wrapped around the equipment in that figure of eight (secured with a half hitch) that Neil demonstrates. Flick it off, drop it on the ground and walk away. No knots, no tangles and no spiral twist. I even do the same with my 50M hosepipe down into a dustbin - no kinks.
As to the thumb knot demo, (Stafford Knot to me) that is sublime.
And I’m a bloke who learned nine different bowline ties and when sitting in the warm and dry enjoys splicing rope.

Lately I've started carrying three metres of paracord around everywhere with me in my rucksack. Now whenever I have a spare five minutes with nothing else to do I re-practice the important knots that I want to remember so stay fresh in my mind. I have developed a kind of knot kata routine which I repeat regularly.
These are the knots which I practice as they seem to be the most useful for my needs:
Bowline
Truckers hitch
Spool tool knot
