I was given an old kent pattern axe head that had seen better days but as it was a Sorsby, Sheffield steel job; i decided it was perfect for modding. The shape which was chosen to preserve almost all the original cutting edge but reduce the weight, was plasma cut out slowly and cooled through out to maintain the hardness and temper. the handle was chosen for it's good grain that seemed out of the available lot, to best follow the shape. last evening I made the leather blade guard (oak tanned i'm told). All in, the axe and guard weigh a smidge over 2kg /4lb and hits 24"
I have made many knives, a fair few axes and even a bunch of swords but for some reason i really am drawn to this axe.
oh and by the way it cuts like a champ!
