The title says it all really. I have purchased quite a few tools over the last year following my introduction to custom sharp things ( thanks John ! my bank manager will be getting in touch anytime soon to have a word:D )
Anyway this is yet another adition to my collection but what makes this one special for me is that it was made following discussions with Singeblister about what i wanted, up to now i have just gone down to see John and looked in his display cabinet at whatever he was working on and gone oooooooohhhhhhh i want that. After getting a few off the peg ( if you can ever say that about John's knives) I decided to man up and commission my own style.
All I can say is that John is a master at what he does and really good at interpreting what somebody who in reality knows nothing about knives (me :o ) and producing the goods. The way i described it was akin to the way a 3 year old draws a car........I basically pointed at the bits of other knives i liked and said "blend all them together thats what I want." This is what he came up with.

I love the grain in the wood and them fancy pins ( they must have a proper name i just went ooohhh i like them)

Now a knife that nice deserved a great sheath so i got intouch with Topknot and asked him to make me something that would do it justice and this is what he came up with.

and while he was at it i asked for an axe mask to match ( im getting in touch with my feminine side and accesorising darling :nana: )

.

Now it must be said that neither of these guys charged as much as their work is really worth and it was a pleasure to discuss the projects and develop ideas. Hopefully John will come along and give a more accurate description of the knife wood type and size etc etc.

I count John as a friend but as I have said before, that came about from being a very happy customer and recieving top class service. I have no connection to his buisness. same goes for topknot.
Cheers
Greg

Really nice stuff there, well done all, I really like the blade size and shape looks like a good user, amazing sheath it really does it justice, and accesorizing is the way forward mate, my wife told me so.:D

That leather work is fantastic Greg I really like the whole package you have there now, I remember when we first met and that axe and knife you had at that time I am sure you new kit with perform much better and it looks good as well :)
The wood is called Palo Santo which is a close relative of lignam vita ( spelling ) the steel is 01 the the fancy pin is just called a mosaic pin, really glad you like the thing and I will have to have a word with Top about doing some leather work for me soon

My, My, My. I was talking to Timinwales this morning and he said something in Latin. I cannot remember what it was but loosly translated it was 'Well presented and well proven'. He said there was an abreviation; 'BV' i think. Well gentlemen, i think three BV's going here. One each for Singeblister for his usual outstanding work and attention to detail. One for Topknot who star is very much in the ascendance and one for yourself Firebreather. Lot's of us talk about it and fail miserably to see it through, but you have designed and commissoned a fine looking knife and suitably impressive accessories!

Well done and 'BV' (help me out here Tim)

Cheers for the kind words guys but the real credit goes to singeblister and topknot as i basically told them that I wanted certain things to be included but other than that just have fun creating stuff.
I would love to say more about the blade design but you will have to talk to singeblister about it I just pointed to where I wanted it to come up the blade. he can say in a few words what will take me ages and I probably will end up confusding people anyway

Cheers Greg

Beautiful leatherwork, and that knife looks excellent. Do you mind if I ask what the dimensions are?

I am off down to singeblister's later i will ask him. My specs on the blade was the handle must fit my hand and when my thumb is streched out the blade must be about half to one inch bigger.

Edit ....I have just measured it and the handle is 4 inch long. The blade sooooooo big for me, this is a monster as usually have my knives about the 3 inch mark.

Just one more question. Is it scandi ground or convex or flat? It's hard to see on the pictures.

Michiel
The grind is a flat grind approx 2\3 deep of the blade , in the picture the edge hadn't been put on it as Greg had said he wanted to send it out for leather work and I didn't want anyone working around it to get cut :) , he brought it back today for its final Finnish, So now it is a flat grind with a convex edge hair popping sharp and it killed one of my buffing mops , I had a grab and the knife turned and cut the mop to shreds , but better the mop than me , Greg I think left the workshop with slightly brown trousers :D just another moment in the life of a knife maker.

And the pictures dont do the sheath justice either its a very nice pice of work, Greg also has a matching fire steel with palo santo handle now.

The matching fire steel is great and I will get some piccys up tomorrow.
It was quite scary seeing the blade catch and spin towards the floor with bits of mop flying all over the workshop.:nana: i grabbed the glasses and hid behind the bandsaw.....:deal: ..........dont laugh too hard but John grabbed his full face visor, ear muffs and he would of had his gauntlets on as well but he could not find them :D .

lovely knives mentalnurse. It was great seeing them come into being.
