I received my new Alan Wood today, what a beauty... stainless steel, stag handle with black zytel spacers. Here she is compared to my Woody:

The sheath quality far surpasses anything I have had from him before, including the Tamarack.

lovely knife! it's rather noticeable that AW finishes his own blades far better that the Woodlores!

looks a lot more powerful than the Woodlore too!!

what was the waiting time on your order by the way?

cheers

The waiting time is around 8 to 9 months, although if you are military he does tend to be quicker (just in case you arn't around to pay :D ). I like the shape of the handle on this one compared to the Woodlore, and I don't have to worry abut corrosion as much.

Yes both of them have tapered tangs. The finish is superb, although the Woodlore is quite old now and has been well used, so comparing both of them in terms of finish cannot be done.

Very nice.

Wonder which stainless? I saw one of Alan Woods adverts and besides his own knives he was also selling Queen pocket knives in D2 steel.

I had had thoughts of getting a stainless knife with non-wooden handle for canoeing trips. Something like this would fit the bill - though I guess it's not cheap.

On the subject of Alan Wood knives, I see on ebay that a newish unused Woodlore went for under £300, while a copy of the Woodlore by an unknown (to me anyway) maker went for £175.

It's RWL-34 steel. Alan does this knife as standard in various micarta, which would be ideal for canoeing, the price is £185.

That's how it came, serves it's purpose well, may not win a beauty award, but neither will the knife now, it's a well used tool.
