Nettle Roots

I've recently dug up some roots of the larger Nettle variety and wondered if they were edible. I've searched several old threads and not found anything.

I thought they'd be OK as the leaves are edible and the Nettle is generally a Fwend but I thought I'd ask...The mature plant roots are fairly large but tena..tenaci..tenachos...hard to dig!

Don't know about eating them, but there was thread a while back with folks enthusing about how strong the roots were for tying things. Better even than the ordinary cordage they claimed.
cheers,

Nettle root is used in alot of herbal remedies for prostate problems but I cant remember reading anywhere where it was used for food.

I have heard, but not tried them, that they are edible but not worth the faff as they tend to be almost invisible once you get the outer peal and mud off and taste of mud...

If you want enough nettle roots to feed a king come by my allotment and help yourself, I'll provide you with a fork (a digging fork that is but if you want to eat them raw I'll let you have a culinary fork too).
