Nato water bottle patent?

Hey guys, got a bit of a weird question here, hope this is the right place to put it.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a patent for the design of the nato water bottle?? I can't find any information about it online or any information/website about osprey who manufacture the thing. I know there is a few different versions out there and it made me wonder how they can make and sell copies.

58 pattern started off green then went to black later on. Have youtried the patent office for their records.

Thanks for the NSN, i tried to use that before but i could not find anything with it.

Tiger, i tried searching the online Intellectual Property Office with no luck. Wondering if they used a specific name for it that is making it hard to find or what.

It refers to the old webbing used during WWI (1908 webbing i think it was called?)

Thanks Lister, quite an interesting read. The pdf link does not work however, it says it's forbidden?

During my search for information i came across some documents that give prices for the MOD. Apparently one 58 pattern water bottle costs them £2.64! Some of these surplus shops are making a right killing. I wonder where they go to buy a job lot from osprey.
