Where about's were you? My usual spot is the Dark Peak area in Derbyshire - although around Ladybower you do have Snake Road running through it, head west to Kinder or northest to Derwent Moors and you'll get the peace you looking for...

...the other weekend I was up on Kinder and the only thing we could hear was the sound of Swifts' wings as they cut through the air less than a metre from our heads. Must've been 30 of them.

Walked 12 miles, didnt see any forest to speak of, never got away from the sound of traffic.

Dissapointing to say the least!

I went on a 16 mile walk around the National Forest, and saw may different types and ages of woodland, for hrs, often without roads or traffic. Try a different route dude.:)
