Hi all. Can somebody please tell me the lowest temp i would be comfortable in this bag. Really like the look of it plus you get free sleep socks   .

I know it is listed as a summer bag but my favorite time to get out is in autumn and spring.(Half term next week wahoo :D ).

Any info or recommendations welcome.

Cheers everyone
Jay :D

P.s. only got a £70 budget for other recommendations .

Hi,

I have both the Nanok Endurance SF 0 °C and the Nanok Endurance SF -10 °C, as you know they combine with the -10 °C fitting inside the 0 °C to make a bag that goes down to -20 °C.

The 0 °C bag is very large and can develop cold spots.

I have used both bags combined at -6 °C in a hammock with the BCUK/Snugpak under blanket and was toasty warm.

I used the -10 °C on it's own in early January and it was great.

The one thing I will say is I go to bed on a full stomach when sleeping out and I wear my clothes - socks, trousers, long sleeve top and boxer shorts.

Then Nanoks are pretty good bags - but they are really bulky and to be honest I've had real trouble compressing them.

Using the -10 °C inseide the -0 °C in a hammock is not much fun either as they slip and slide about and so far i've managed to get them twisted into a quite uncomfortabe condition!

Plus point is they are a doddle to chuck in the washing machine.

IMHO - I'd have a look around at a secondhand bag.

Hope this helps

Phil.

As phil says, the 0C bag is a bit wider at the shoulders than the -10C. But basically WYSIWYG...the bag is designed to be comfortable down to 0C. I've used mine down to about -6C clothed and with a cotton liner in a hammock and managed to sleep fine. there are loads of threads on the Nanok bags with a lot of info about them...a quick search for "Nanok" should put you on the right path. :)

I bet you were!!!!!

If you have a read of the blurb on Nanok's site, they do specify some of the requirements to meet that rating: you've got to be young and fit (eg a soldier, otherwise take 5° off the rating), you need a thick self-inflating mat and be sheltered from the elements, and be wearing underwear.

For me it's a great bag for Summer, but if I'm looking to be comfortable at around 0° then I'd look at something warmer.

I've stated my dislike for Snugpak before (I'll be getting like Hugh and his F1 soon). Apart from the ridiculous temperature ratings, my other gripe was with the snagging zips.

Anyway. In the example you linked to, to have a comfort range of 3°c to -7°c seems daft to me. If I'm comfortable at 3°c you can bet I'll be comfortable at 10°c.

Bear in mind "extreme" limits usually refer to you basically not dieing, but surviving with hypothermia. What's a few fingers/toes...?

I've just bought a down bag from Alpkit. I went for an AD500 in long length. £85 isn't too far over your budget.

I haven't tried it yet, so can't in all honesty recommend it. I ordered it on Monday and it arrived the day after. I have other Alpkit gear and that's well made and good value for money IMO.

Down isn't for everyone though, especially if you think you may get it wet.

Hi all. I decided to go for the Nanok endurance -10 off of the genuine army surlpus website. Insanely cheap.

One thing i wanted to know is that i am quite a big lad . 6'2 and heavily built. Will the -10 still be roomy enough as i can't stand being constricted while trying to get a good nights sleep.

Cheers
Jay

Cheers Phil. I think i am around the 15 to 16 stone mark. 48 chest i think. Will it be roomy enough for me.

Yeah i can't believe i found it for £70. A bargain.

Doesn't come with a liner but that doesn't matter much to me. One thing i can't find out is how much the website charges for postage. Any ideas

Hey dude,

I'm "pretty sure" you should be ok - at the end of the day keep it clean and out of the smoke from a fire and sell it on as "new only used once" - you'll get your money back I'm sure :)

Hope it all works out for ya mate. have fun with the new bag :D

Thought as much so thanks scanker. Any recommendations for someone on a £70 budget like me.

Just got an offers email through from Outdoorcode and they're selling the Nanok Endurance -10°C for £66.47 and the 0°C for £49.46.

I don't have any experience of these bags myself, but others have said very good things. Good prices IMO and £1 postage I think.

And they won't be available from the UK much longer - get em while you can (from Andrew of course)!
