Has anyone ever taken the handle off of a Mora Frost knife? I'm thinking of skinning mine and making my own handle, but am unsure of what lies under the plastic. Does it have much of a tang?
It realy depends on the model of Mora you mean (Mora is the Scandinavian version of Sheffield - a centre of knife making - with lots of different knives coming out of it!) - some are great for rehandling ...some not so good.
Some - like the clipper - have partial tangs and although I have rehandled a couple they are probably best left with the moulded on handle.
Some - like the classic - have a stick tang and wooden handle (Cody uses this style in Dual Survival) plus a plastic sheath. These can be very cheap - about £7-£10 - and are ideal handle and sheath replacement projects ...like in the linked video in the previous post.
I prefer the Jonsson Mora knife for many of my knifemaking exploits - IMHO the steel is great and the knife usually is cheaper than the Frost of Mora (MORA of Sweden) marked ones.
Aint broke any - yet
So - if you have a clipper - keep it as it is....if you have a Classic - a good project awaits you
Thanks for the advice. Guess I'll have a go with the knife kit SWMBO got me for Christmas and not practice first. Just wanted to do it justice and not stuff it up.
Cheers for that, I've got some contact details for a place that sells good quality blades, I was just trying to save a few quid and recycle a spare clipper that I've got.
