Mystery object I.D.

Ok Folks. My partner just found this in a charity shop and curious to know if anyone knows what it is. Made of wood The ring slides down closing the end like a chuck. The black piece is a file. This also fits in the slot at top. Hopefully some genius on here can tell us what it is.

it's for squaring the end of a snooker / pool cue I think

I think so too. A snooker cue person showed me one not long ago and I wanted to know what it was.

ahh, without the file i'd have said chalk holder, but with the file, que end squarer probably works
