Cheers guys

Never owned a Laguiole knife before. I suppose they're like a posh Opinel. I'm impressed with the workmanship and detail of them, and I love the filework on the spines and the little bumblebee. They'll get some hammer this weekend:D

Many happy returns, great present. I bought a similar one in France a couple of years ago and love it. Holds a good edge and is one of my most used knives.

I just had the BIG 50 birthday and all I got was a bottle of whisky and a rock...OK it was Glenlivet and the rock was a big chunck of petrified wood that is very atractive but....my wife does not understand me (or at least not my Bushcraft needs).
It could be that as I was off leading an exped in Thailand at the time she thought that I did not deserve any more, or it was subtle revenge (I was in S Africa for our Silver Wedding anniversary a few years ago..) or perhaps as she turned 60 this year she does not think 50 is any great shakes.....
However it was wierd to give away more prezzies than you get, all on the day you get around to celebrating your milestone 5 decades, 1/2 centuary.
Have you noticed how young policemen and doctors are these days? And how awful modern "music" is?
Your wife rocks, mine just quivers slightly...but I cannot complain too much - she owns our house, has a real job (that pays the bills - mine keeps me in bannock and nicotine gum [used to be beer and tabs but I am not allowed them any more] and allows me to spend time playing in the woods.
And anyway it is my 27th wedding anniversary tomorrow and that must prove something... dosn't it.
You are a lucky man to have a wife who gets you such nice prezzies - long may it continue for you!

Happy Birthday!!!
You're a lucky guy maddave!
Great looking stuff!

Just a word of warning though - If you *snap* a Laguiole shut (like you would with almost any folder), the cutting edge will hit the back spring and cause a blunt bit.
You have to do like the french - close it slowly and smoothly. They even have a saying about this: "Ressort silencieux vivra vieux" - "If you close it silently, it'll live to be old"
