Hello Everybody,
Not Complaning, just pointing out the differences between the Two (SHIRTS)
I am a proud owner of An Original Swanndri for the last twelve years which i bought from New Zealand and is made in New Zealand, but alas at a cost, as i made a fatal error of washing the shirt using the wrong temperature in the Washing machine, and it shrunk by 2inches all over now. But i have obtained a new one from a friend. It is much lighter in weight, and the weave is a bit thin, even the Logo does not look the same and not as coarse as the Original Swanndri, the DESCRIPTIONS on the Label is the same but the exception of where the Garment is made! Also the registered Trademark R is missing from the label on the green shirt, But it is much softer to the skin. I am posting a few pictures here for all of you to see and leave you to ponder if we should be buying the New Swanndri in the future. I don’t know where it is made as it does say anywhere on the Ranger's shirt. But i am still happy as i can still get into the Ori ones and i will be using the two shirts together.
Cheers
the interceptor boy.

Hello sir,#

i look after my stuff very well and i only used the green and brown checks twice in twelve yrs, do you think i would be lying and taking time posting all the pictures so that you guys can take a look. why do i bother!, so why do i have a black swan on my mine then. .

My extreme has the same logos and labels as your ranger but it`s only 12 months old though. I expect Swannis manufacturing processes have changed over the last 12 years and they`ve refined the wool to a thinner form. Have you had chance to compare the performance between the two yet ?

Hey calm down, lol, I werent suggesting nowt underhand, just that mine start looking pretty ragged after a few years, but i wear em working on farms and pretty much daily though the winter.

I heard that production had moved from New Zealand to China a while back. same as everything i guess, to cut labour costs. But it would be professional suicide if they let the quality go down hill.

The black swan, also known as the mucky duck, is a pub in Ripon that I not often frequented by anybody in the military fraternity other than on a leaving do. The relevance of this to a Swanndri jacket is neither here nor there, but if you're in the locale, avoid it like the plague. Else you may end up with it!

Hi,

Swannie gear has indeed moved production off shore (see below from Wikipedia). We manufacture in Australia and the costs are always rising and we have looked at producing OS but you really have to watch quality. Our market is mainly military and we only sell online now as there aren't the margins for retail that there once were. It's sad but for now we are happy to pay for our garments to be made in Perth from Australian wool - I just hope it continues that way!

On Swanndri..

Recent History

Swanndri has been outsourcing its production to China since 2005. However this is not made clear according to customers who have purchased Swanndri products. All the packaging and postage reinforces the NZ connection, and it was only when you look at the washing instructions that the phrase "Final construction in China to Swanndri NZ standards" comes into sight. Whilst this is no doubt legal, is it ethical for the company to be trading on its past emotional NZ links, thereby misleading many who think they are supporting New Zealand in the global ecomony?

Other New Zealand companies are doing the same. The only way now to be sure you are buying REAL New Zealand-made gear (and quality) is to ask if the manufacturer qualifies for the NZ government's "Kiwi-made status". This says that to be genuinely "Kiwi-made" "New Zealand must be the place of origin of the goods or services in accordance with sections 9 and 13(j) of the [2]Fair Trading Act 1986. “A place of origin can be defined as the country or region where the product was created in its final form from its raw materials or constituent parts. In other words, it is the country or region where the product's 'essential quality' was created. It is not necessarily the place where the most money was spent on a product - and it is not the place where only final assembly or packaging was done”

Hi All,
Just wondering if you get much Swazi and Stoney Creek gear in the shops in Blighty? It's all synthetic rather than wool, but good, hardwearing stuff. Swazi is NZ made but I think Stoney Creek might be Aussie if not Kiwi. Worth checking out as an alternative to Swannie and both companies have good guarantees and do a big range of kit. You've probably noticed that Mr. Mears wears heaps of Swazi gear. The windstopper stuff is awsome. I've no connection to either company. I just use the gear at work and when out in the wop wops.
Cheers,
J
p.s. I've also got quite a bit of Swandri stuff and I do like it, but mines all NZ made and I don't think I'll buy any thats been made in China. Doesn't seem right somehow. It would be like buying a Barbour jacket made in India or somewhere.

Went and checked my 2 swanni's(got another on order), my older green one, says nothing about where it was made, but the new check one(same size xl, but to small ?) says made in New Zealand, going to get rid of the check one when i get round to it, but is it just the green ones that are'nt labeld up ?.
