It all started when I decided to make myself some moc's. I did the research, bought all the relevant tools and leather. When it arrived I was a little nervous about going straight into making the moc's having never worked with leather before. Then it hit me, why not make a sheath for my mora. I had some old leather lying around so I figured I would give it a go. At this point I must say a big thanks to Rapidboy/Sticky for the awesome sheath tutorial :You_Rock_ .

Very nice Yarrow,

Why does everybody elses work look so much neater than mine.

Heres a pic of my latest creation, WL copy from SWC (a great bloke to deal with) and a homemade sheath.

In mitigation, the sheath was made using the minimum of tools and probably less than ideal materials.
On the up side though, if I had made a showroom piece, I wouldn't be so keen to get it out and get it dirty - so it's probably just as well.

Trust me up close my stitching aint too hot. Yours looks well cool! Im interested in the WL copy from SWC, if you dont mind me asking how much did the knife cost. I was thinking of getting just the blade and having one of the craftsmen on here make a real nice handle. The handle that Rapidboy made for the WS WL on British blades is awesome!!!!!!!!

Hi Yarrow,
Sorry for the delay, PC trouble.
Thanx for the compliment but its more of a sows ear than a silk purse, it's going to take a few more practice runs to get anything like "pretty".
The knife was one of the "Ready to assemble" kits for £65, I paid a bit extra for the etching of the blade, but it still came in at less than £75 including postage. The handle is still a bit square for my big hands, so I might shape it a bit more when I next get a wave of confidence flood over me.
RB's work just gets better and better, his rehandling tutorial is fantastic.

Speaking from limited experience here:
The stiching on the back side where I've punched through still can go a bit wobbly, but I've found cutting a line it for the stitching with a stitch groover helps enormously, and also rebates your line of stitching a bit. I also switched to a round awl which I found harder to use but much *neater* than the bladed awl I stared out with. Also I've found if I do one hole at a time, I'm much neater because I'm always checking each awl hole has punched though in line on the back side of the work.

Well thats where I went wrong then....
I haven't yet got a stitch groover, stitch marker or an awl, nor even leather needles. I drilled the holes for the thread with as small a drill bit as I could find, so the line on the back of the sheath is quite straight - but I was careless as to the angle of the drill, which led to a wobbly line on the front of the sheath - lesson 1.
I might end up getting some proper tools sometime in the future, perhaps I'll even make some.

Nevertheless it was fun to make, it will be very usefull in the future and a good start up the first few degrees of the learning curve.
