A friend from Finland recently visited and, knowing that I like sharp pointy things, she brought me this gift.

This is my first puukko and its quite different from what I'm used to. The sheath is also different.

The handle seems to be made of curly birch and the sheath is leather. I'm not sure what the blade is made of, it looks like chrome plating but it could be highly polished stainless steel. It has a Scandinavian grind with no secondary bevel and it's almost razor sharp.

Seems like a nice enough knife but I'm not sure if I'm going to use it or not. I think this type of blade would take some getting used to for me.

Anyway I thought you all might like the photo. If there's any interest can upload some more of both the knife and the sheath.

I've always liked the look of them and considered getting one as a cheap step up from my clipper. Good choice or not, Red? Or do I just be patient and keep with my clipper as my general bushcraft knife? The only thing is that the handle of the clipper isn't exactly to my liking - the texture seems to pick up loads of goo and dirt and needs loads of cleaning. Possibly being too fussy.

May be hijacking the thread a bit. Maybe not - dunno got a headache this morning and really can't think to hard... :(

Great choice Mace!

They are a super knife and the ones such as those Jon Pickett described are very inexpensive. I think they sit nicely in the "whats best knife around £30 - £40" arena.

Or, if you prefer "What knife would you buy that costs more than a clipper and less than a Helle"?

The answer to both these questions would be a Puukko IMHO. The finesse of these wee knives was a big influence on me when I designed the PFK
