My first and second attempt at knife making.

Both knives are made using “Laplander 90” blanks bought form Survival school’s web site.

First knife: Laplander 90 blank with Ash handle (old spade handle), Brass pins and Brown leather sheath.

Second knife: Laplander 90 blank with Yew handle and brass pins, Tan leather sheath with neck strap.

Both sheaths are wet formed and hand stitched with brass rivets.

I managed to get the Brass rivets from a local cobbler for a donation in the charity box, the tan
thread used for stitching is cotton braided thread usually used for making necklaces from a local craft shop.

Go through the grades on the abrasive paper only doing my first full tang now but Igo down 1200 grit wed and dry.

Brass is quite soft, it's easier than you think.

Both of these are nice knives and well finished, good choice of blade.

Hi Greg,

I shaped the handles on a belt sander, pined and glued with epoxy then cut the pins off just proud of the wood the carefully filed the pins down flush with a fine file.

The wood was given several coats of sanding sealer and rubbed down with foam sanding blocks between coats (they also polish the pins). After this the whole thing is polished with beeswax.
