Saw Horse and Cleaving Break from cleft timber


To service my growing delight in green woodworking I decided to build this saw horse and cleaving block from wood cleft with my new froe ... they both work OK but the next ones will be better...
I then made a new mallet (broke the old one) from Rowan and roughed out a pair of rowan chair legs using the new kit ......

A nesting bowl set

My first good bowl has just been joined by others to make a nesting bowl set.... all from Ash the two bowls that fit inside each other from the same round of wood...

Very tidy work John, was it turned on a powered lathe or a pole lathe?

A pair of four legged stools

This was meant to be a matching pair... but thanks to an incompetent angle spotter "helping" me when I was drilling the leg holes one is very much asymmetric ...
Ash tops, Rowan legs.

I have just selected the wood for a future project - a coffee table for home - and the grain patterns in that put the stools to shame ... watch this space!

Project 181

Spoon knife

Blade from 01 steel, ground on a linisher jig then heated in a forge and bent around an old pipe and water quenched ...tempered to "straw" colour in a domestic over and quenched in engine oil.
Now all I have to do is sharpen it and carve a spoon!

Champion the Lumber Horse

Not my name - it is the designer' name for this flat bed shaving horse - honest! 4 x 8' lengths of 2x4inch treated lumber lots of screws and some scrap for the foot bar and bed, plus a Hazel pivot rail.

My collection of tools and equipment grows ... soon I will have the gear to start making even more stuff!

Camp table/coffee table

Well it was going to be another camp table - but it got co-opted as a coffee table in our living room!
When I saw the grain I had to have the wood!
Ash top, Rowan legs, Oak wedges, all finished with Danish oil and home made beeswax polish.
