Does anyone know anything about my axe? Any ideas on age or origin, if its a good one or junk? I haven't really used it much as it needs a good sharpen.
It has skinner&johnson 850 written on the side.
I got it for free off a scrap pile!

Early 20th C, English forged. Probably quite decent steel. It's the sort of little chopper all our grandads had in their shed and available for a few quid at any car boot sale. I love them. Follow Red's sharpening guide in the edge tool section and it will work as well as a £50 axe, in fact thats probably about how much it would cost if anyone was forging them in the UK today.
