That came out rather nice. I like it. Boots can make a good, usable knife sheath and I've made a couple before from boots.

Out in the deserts in the US, one thing that you occasionally stumble over in the strangest places is someone's junk pile. Sometimes it's just garbage, but often it's a truckload of old household goods that someone just needed to get rid of in one large batch, so they just drive for a few miles out into the middle of nowhere and just pick a spot that's convenient. If the case is the latter, I always made it a point to scavenge for stuff like old boots that could be salvaged for their leather. Usually it was old cowboy style or work boots. Out in the middle of nowhere one day in someone's abandoned stuff pile I even found a very good condition US military issue M17A1 gas mask with the protective hood. Just gotta watch out for rattlers, scorpions, and other fauna looking for some shade and shelter that you might be disturbing.

We call em fly tipper's here in the UK and in my book they are considered the scum of the earth. I have cleared up their mess more than once to make a Right of Way passable again.
Three versions I come across - the householder who are too ignorant and lazy to visit a recycling centre at appropriate time( household waste, white goods, tv and mattresses), industrial waste dumped by a cowboy clearance agent not wanted to incurr a charge (Building rubble, asbestos roofing, chemicals, glass) and the pikie tree "surgeons" who just litter and foul everywhere they go (Evergreen cuttings, waste tarmac, other trees and earth).:cussing:

Excellent thread and nice work!!
I love the idea of making use of leather from old boots that are beyond use. I'm going to be scouring the local flea market for old battered rigger boots now :D
One of the great things about BushCraft is the ability to improvise equipment/tools out of what we can find and this is a prime example IMHO.

NICE ONE!!

Or buy a cheap new pair from Aldi's, wearing for 30 minutes light work should be enough for the rubber soles to start falling apart in chunks :) The leather is good though :D

Beautiful job,
the recycling element is great and you'll remember those boots every time you draw the knife too!

Would this work in white patent leather?!:)
