What level are you asking?

Toccata and Fugue on a three manual Bogis cathedral organ or Frère Jaques on a mouthorgan?

I played a mean Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the violin in Junior School. Does that count?

Not even joking.

Now though, i do like some classical, violin and piano. vivaldi, Paganini... and Bo Burnham

Instruments I have played at varying levels of proficiency over the years:
Bagpipes, Trumpet, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Synthesizer, Harmonica, Tin Whistle.

The only one I was ever really good at was the bagpipes, but that was mostly down to the 10,000 hours thing. I practised them a lot for a number of years.
I have played guitar and trumpet fairly recently but have pretty much decided that I prefer to listen to the experts so mine are left in peace right now.
I still think there is a certain mental health benefit from playing music though, so nowadays when I feel the need I pick up a tin whistle and play a little tune or two.

I play a mean set of air drums and a wicked air guitar;), unfortunately i've not got a musical bone in my body, i've tried to play various instruments throughout my life, but it's just not for me, i do whistle a fair bit though - does that count?

I once learnt God Save the Queen on the Trumpet at school. Obviously I hated playing the trumpet so I taught myself God Save the Queen on the piano. Last time I played it was about 3 years ago when my lad was learning the piano (on a loaned keyboard), In that case I played it as my partner is anti patriotism / jingoism and I wanted to annoy her!!

I come from a family (on my Dad's side) of people who either played, taught or had a perfect ear for music. My gran was Royal school of music trained and later in life was known as the teacher to go to if you kid has talent to finish them off to get into the good schools and into a pro career. My Aunt was similarly trained and worked her life as a music teacher both in schools and privately. An uncle who played in an orchestra and chamber music group for pleasure. A cousin who did the same. A Dad who was described by my gran as having a perfect ear and could play a tune if he knew it (at least on the melody). He was not into music like the others but he learnt the violin and trumpet. My Mum learnt piano as did her uncle who used to play the organ in a city hall where he lived.

My sister and I got piano lessons by force. It was with a chainsmoking person who was a terrible teacher. I learnt more in 10 minutes than this guy taught in two months!! We both gave up. My gran told my parents that my sister had potential if she had lived near here, but I would never learn music as I did not have the coordination or any ability. Mind you I did learn the guitar. I borrowed a mates and he taught me and was making a little progress so I spent money to get my own. I got a right handed guitar because I am righ handed and I just could not play it. My mate was left handed as was his guitar so if I was to learn I would need a left handed guitar. That happens, I knew left handed kayakers who were right handed in normal life.

So A few years ago our son had piano lessons and he had a degree of talent but he saw practise as a chore and hated it so gave up. IF you do not enjoy the playing in itself then there is no point in learning IMHO.

So to summarise, I am the failure musically in the family and have no musical talent at all. However in theory I did have talent. The theory suited me the practise did not, guess coordination is important for playing but not theory side. Does this bother me? Not at all. We all have talents and enjoy what we do. However music is an important part of my life and I do not need ability to appreciated it!!
