Hello all. Is there any issue with the authorities in carrying a multitool like a Leatherman, Sog Paratool, or Swisstool while visiting the UK? Knowing that carrying certain knives in the UK can be an issue, I was wondering if a multitool would be ok?

If it's in your rucksack or as part of a car or bike repair kit then there shouldn't be a problem providing you don't start waving it around at people or try taking it into a night-club for example. There have been a number of discussions on this topic and the consensus is that the Law over here is clear; it's illegal to carry locking or fixed blades over a certain length without good reason and it falls on the Officer querying you to decide what's reasonable. 99 times out of 100 no-one will ever even know or care what you are carrying, but it's not a risk worth ruining your trip over. I'd keep it stashed and not walk the streets with it unless it's well down in your pack/luggage. If you're hiring a car, keep it in the glove compartment until you need to use it or pack it for a camp out.
