Not really, I choose not to respond as it is clear that one of us, is not able to discuss this without getting “emotional”

Come on - that's not really called for is it?

As for the mp3 player, if you want a smaller capacity one, I'd def. do with flash-based storage (no HD inside). It's ligher, and makes for a more robust unit.

Edited to add: I would never buy music from any on-line store. The quality is poor, and you're stuck with which ever company's flavor of DRM they support. It's always much better to buy the CD then burn your music into what MP3 format you like. The idea of paying monthly subscription's to listen to your own music is terrible!

My entire collection is stored in Apple Lossless format. No DRM, and over 384kbps bitrate. Sounds good even through my stereo at home.

Thank you all for all the advice and comments. I knew I could rely on getting some good advice here. I've taken it and not gone for the ipod! Instead I got the Creative Zen Vision M 30gb. All I need now is a lot more music and vids etc. :You_Rock_ I'd give you all a rep if I could. Probably saved me making a mistake.

Though you alread bought it I gonna give my thoughts on this :)

I got an iriver ihp 120 at the end of 2003, it's still working great, has lot's of space, radio, recording and it's fantastic with the rockbox firmware (http://www.rockbox.org/ --> adds loads of features to a number of mp3 players) . Iriver is better then ipod in many things..

This said I actually don't use it very often anymore these days :p I really can't stand wearing headphones as I think it shuts my ears of from the rest of the world.. I do just use it as portable harddrive and in my caravan attached to a speaker. If I needed another mp3player I'd now get a normal 1,2,4 GB flash player with AA or AAA batteries (cause if those built in batteries die you're (profanity deleted), AA rechargeables are easy) ...

Just to introduce a slightly different take on this, I have a Sony Ericsson W810i mobile phone.

It currently has a 512 meg card in it but you can upgrade to a 2 gig, I can take photos with it (2 megapixel camera), play MP3 music files, a LED light,a radio and I can even phone people up with it.

Admittedly 2 gig isn't anything as much as some of the MP3 players out there but its still a fair bit of music to get through.

I have just bought a creative zen vision m myself this week, I am open to any suggestions on how to get the best preformance out of it. It sounds great with headphones but when I use an audio lead to connect to my hi fi the quality doesn't seem to be as good, that said I bought a FM transmitter to be used with my car stereo and that sounds fine . Overall 5000-7500 songs (depending on quality can't be all bad)

What bitrate are the tracks recorded in?
You'll find headphones are not as good as speakers at reproducing the sounds (unless you buy some really nice ones!!).

I only have tracks in at least 192Kbps encoding - anyless and I can hear to much distortion in the tracks.

Same here my MP3 player is really good, but since getting a Sony Ericsson W850i I barely use it now, its just hassle having to carry around a seperate MP3 player when a mobile can do it as well. I think my MP3 player will either be sold or saved for holidays, long journeys or as a portable hard drive.

:offtopic: Any suggestions on where to get an FM transmitter :dunno: ? The CD player's packed up on my car :drive: stereo but the radio still works, and my pick up :drive: only has a radio, so this could be a good idea for me. :1244:
