Not really a bushcraft knife, but I am working on making a mountain man knife out of the blade I got from Lord Farquar some while back. The knife is 13", the handle a nice crown antler. The blade is 7" long.

The sheath is also going to be mountain man style to go with an outfit I am slowly making.

I have been interested in the mountain man era for some time, and finding Eric's new forum has spurred me on again!
The address is on his signature if you're interested.

I hope you like it guys (and gals of course)

I really like it Joel, just as a mountain man knife should be, hand forged with a stag horn handle.

We'll have to try and get a meet sorted with Eric for all the mountain man enthusiasts like they do in the states.

Why do you say that? I wouldn't use that style for bushcraft or as an outdoor knife but that is just personal preference.

Surely these sorts of knife have just as valid a pedigree for the outdoors / bushcraft as any other type of blade and more so than some

I was only referring to my knife not being a "bushcraft" style knife such as is currently "fashionable for bushcraft", as promoted by a well know TV presenter :D

I quite agree BOD. I think that these knives have been good enough to help the Mountain Men chappies survive then, they are still good enough for me now.

Thank you Bernie. The cunning plan is to try and arrange a first "Randy Voo", As Eric calls them later in the summer, would be nice to be able to have perhaps about half a dozen people, and making a few Mountain man gear. Have you seen Eric's new forum MountainmanUK?

Any budding mountaiman welcome!!

Well, I finally got around to finishing my Mountain Man Style knife. I am very happy how it finally turned out .:D

The sheath is rawhide on veg tan leather. To make it, I followed the tutorial by J Cohea on Paleoplanet.

That's a different knife isn't it? :)

No, same knife, only finished, with a guard and a sheath  Took me ages to get around to it!

I used cut copper tacks, drilled a pilot hole for each, because it's was too hard to just hammer the tacks in. The pilots holes don't go all the way through, and the tacks are bent back on the backside of the sheath. They can't come out!

There are mountain man rendezvous around here, where nothing modern is allowed. They have competitions for shooting flintlocks, throwing tomahawks, lighting fires, running on snowshoes, etc. Your knife would be a conversation piece.
