Hi folks,
Here are 2 bits of cord, both from thebushcraftstore:
The left is 'MIL-C-5040' purchased last year, has a lovely feel to it, holds knots well and is generally a joy to use. OUT OF STOCK, seemingly never to return.
The right is their regular '550' cord, which feels like someone forgot to insert the inner strands. It has a very loose outer sheath so and can't hold a friction hitch well (so not great for guy lines, tarp tensioning etc). But hey, comes in a billion gaudy colours.
I haven't done tests but would be amazed if their breaking strengths were comparable.
Can anyone tell me where to get cord more like the first sample? Doesn't have to be 'military spec' or any of that willy waving nonsense, just some good quality nylon accessory cord around the 3mm mark would be ace. Thanks!
Moral: if you find cord you like, buy lots.
(also not intending to knock thebushcraftstore, their customer service has been great)
