I've ordered a 6 inch high carbon steel Mora blade from Lee Valley Tools www.leevalley.com. I already have a complete birch handled 3 3/4 inch knife from the same store and I love it.

I was curious as to any ideas forthe design of the handle. Would a Saami, or Nordic style handle look good with the Mora blade? Any personal opinions I heartily welcome, thanks in advance.

I don't see any reason why you should not fit it out with a nordic style handle baring in mind that the frosts does originate from that region anyway.

Once you have a handle on it you'll have to post pictures of the results, good luck with the project:)

Alright, ordered some stag antler through my grandfather and a block of curly maple through Crazy Crow Trading Post www.crazycrow.com... within a month I should be onto the project... also ordered a Green River 4 1/2" Butcher Knife and maple scales.. just couldn't pass up such a beautiful classic ;)

Cool site, cool choice of knife!

Best regards,
Paul.

She's done, except for some oiling of the handle. At first I was going to add antler and make it a true laplander knife, but I decided to see if I could get the same comfort, with less material waste (only have big antlers, and I'm saving them for flintknapping billets). I like her, in less than a week I'm taking a day trip out to the bush to test her out, and compare it to my other knives (well okay, only a fraction of them  ). Just from handling her, something tells me she'll do just fine.. just gotta make her a sheath and she's ready
