Returning to the subject of Moles

And more or a 'how' type question.
I was passing a field the other day and it was well ventilated with a prosperous little Moles labours. Moles hills as far as his ( or hers... ) little eyes could see.

Which got me wondering - if a Mole has a successful patch , works hard and advertises their presence I guess one thing would lead to another thing and a little subterranean romance may occur leading to the pitter-patter of not so small baby Mole feet. A Moles progeny continues the blood line.

So the question is - at this point after the teenage years of baby moles arrive are they encouraged to 'move out'??? Or do the community grow in the same area? I ask as if the area ( land mass ) they are in supports the initial Male and Female requirement for wormage and insects do the offspring create a bit of a pressure on that ? Do Moles migrate? Gap year away ?

Just wondering and its a quiet Sunday night

From the Mammal Society

'During the autumn young moles will have just been pushed out of the nest by their mothers. The youngsters will now be trying to find new/unused territories. They will either try to take over an old territory (which no longer has moles in it) or they will make one of their own. If the latter then you may start to notice mole hills springing up as the moles create their tunnels. If the moles takes over an old territory then you probably won't see any evidence of it as no earth will be displaced.'

And... female mole territories are up to 1300 square metres and male territories larger.

Edit - 1300 square metres is only 36m x 36m - doesn't seem that big to me

I've noticed a few Mole hills on my Lawn and I'd rather they not make it a foothold position.

So I'd rather dissuade them rather than exterminate them if I can.

What options or techniques work? Old school country practices or Hi Tech modern options?

Thanks for the feedback.
Get a mole charmer in. The music puts them in a trance. Then you direct them into a box, shut the lid, put them in the car and take them somewhere else. Easy. you can even do it yourself with a bit of practice. :) x

ps there are no moles in Ireland.
