Some of you may have seen a while ago that I recycled a bergen and modified my kit to suit the new configuration. I have also had the opportunity to fine tune the set-up and do some minor modifications to the bergen. (see link): http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61284

I have now compiled a "basic" kit list and placement within the set-up. Obviously I am constantly modifying the contents to suit the area I'm working in, season, distances to be covered, terrain and availability of resources, but the basics are pretty constant. As ever the list of items in pockets etc is endless.
If you'd like to add your thoughts and variations I'd be pleased to have them as (as ever) I learn all the time.....

modular is the way to go,..

did you sit down and plan it to this stage or has it evolved??

i ask because i use 6-7 seperate stuff sacks in my pack, each with a different piece of paracord looped to the lip of the pack so i can chhose a section easier..

but i may apply your system in the future.

Hiya Raikey,
This has evolved from time in the forces needing to know where everything is, seen or not, and from de-kitting out of the military mind set. I have found that especially on lone trips the discipline of keeping things in some semblance of order (don't get me wrong I ain't tidy or anything, just need to know where things are). When teaching it's also useful to know where your kit is.....
I tried stuff sacks some years ago but like the cheapo vac-pac bags from the pound shops as you can see what's in them and get the air out with your knees and of course they keep the water out.
I have stenciled the pouch names (tools, cook set, basha, water etc) on them for students - and a fading memory...

i have only one pouch,

it detaches from the main pack and gets hung at the head end of the tarp and contains,......

head torch
SAK (mainly for the tin/bottle opener)
turboflame
main torch, Surefire D2
tissues
500ml water bottle
phone
camera

just the stuff i may need in an instant..

but i need another cooking/fire side pouch i reckon..

i have a tool pouch with a saw, axe, bradall, etc, but it stays in the main pack,..

so not as modular as your but like we say,.its evolving
