Heres a Mick Spain blade I have just finished for a BB member (thereaper101) Elm Burr scales, red fibre liners, brass pins and lanyard hole, the scales had some natural knots which were difficult to remove, sand one out and reveal another! so there are a couple of marks/small holes that are visable. Owner intends for it to be a user so not too worried I hope.

Hi Mick, nice work as usual. Maybe you could help me out. I've got some Elm burr scales that will soon be affixed to a knife i'm making for my good lady. I wonder, how do you finish them without the colour darkening? I've just used the usual turp's Boiled linseed mix on a pair of Buckeye Burl scales and they started of almost bleach white, now i've been treating them for a few days, they look like ebony. I'd like to retain the colour of the Elm for the Mrs. Any tips gratefully recieved:)

Hi Jed, I didn't do anything unusual with these, soaked overnight in linsead oil and them light buffed afterwards with 1500 grit to make them smooth again, as the soaking raises the grain, they will need an occasional light oiling to maintain the protection.

Thanks Peter.;)
