I have been looking into home security after some incidents with new people moved into our street and their kids.
Ring doorbell is not an option as my front door is side on to the street, and all it would record is my nice neighbours front door, which is similarly situated on the side of the house rather than front and street facing.
I'm looking for a steel gate that I can only be opened by myself with a key or keypad from inside or outside to protect my door from certain problems with these kids, plus I was almost assaulted on my doorstep by this woman kicking off when I politely and calmly asked her hubby to stop their kids banging on my door and running away. She's like a rhino! I managed to shut the door on her, but I was lucky as she tried to enter my home, yelling abuse and threats at me. Jeez! I have no idea why my housing association put these people in quiet cul de sacs!
Anyway, you don't need to listen to my woes, anymore than I need to listen to her crap, so,
can anyone recommend a particular company that can supply and fit security gates for recessed front doors? I have a top price of about £250-£300 all in.
I'll need to be able to phone them, rather than communicate online.
Another neighbour opposite who has also suffered from these awful people, has offered to fit a ring doorbell, and make sure it can see my house, which I've agreed to. Thing is it means we have to put up with the crap as the the pollys are useless if you complain, 3 complaints by various residents havnt stopped things, i dont have the energy to deal with them, so I want to take proactive steps.
Cheers folks.

I am so sorry to hear that you and your neighbours are having to deal with this.

Why don't you phone the police and ask their advice on where to source such a thing....it not only gives them a heads up that there's an issue, but it's a piece of background trail should you need to report again.

I'd also be copying that request to your housing association.

No one ought to have to tolerate that kind of behaviour at their home.

Very best of luck finding a resolution.

Police already know there is an issue. The idiots have been visited.
Police solutions are laughable. As I've said a ring doorbell is next to useless, all I would see is my neighbours front door and their car., as the front doors are on the side of the house, but it is their preffered solution, the next suggestion is, why don't you move?. Same "solutions" as when I had problems in the past.
Lazy policing.
Housing association, don't reply to calls, I've been waiting almost two weeks for the promised call back from the safety team. Unfortunately, since covid and home working, you cannot speak directly to whomever you want to contact. A message is taken(after 20 -30 mins...often longer) ..on hold, and a message passed on to whoever it concerns...allegedly.
My neighbour and myself have both been promised contact by the community safety team....both still waiting after two weeks, despite asking for it to be dealt with urgently.
I have approached the idea of a safety gate on my door, but the reply is, we don't do that sort of thing, it's up to you and you'll have to get permission for any structural changes or changes to the appearance of the facade. Not helpfull!
I was lucky I kept my chain on the other week, or it might have been a different story!
I'm so tired of this, we've mostly had peace the last few years, as some may know, I've had terrible problems in the past over many years. I thought life had calmed down at last......... sometimes I feel like it will never end. I don't want to live in a fortress, but the way the country is going, perhaps it might not be a bad idea, anyone know of a castle for rent anywhere? :)

Just as a heads up, the Ring (or other brand) doorbells come with a 45 degree angled mount which combined with their wide field of view, would allow you to look out to the approach to your front door.

I empathise though. I have just had two camera/floodlight units installed to cover the remainder of my house which wasn’t covered by the front facing doorbell camera. I’m also a big fan of physical security devices beyond the key locks on doors, as none of the locks on the market are really going to stop a determined burglar. Things like this:

Cheap as chips but another barrier to deter someone.

Sorry to hear about the incidents WG.

Our front door is also on the side of the property so we have a Ring stick up camera covering front door and one back door. Very user friendly, can be wired or battery and have paid for themselves multiple times in terms of piece of mind.
There’s usually a deal to be had.

If you are a housing association resident you’ll need to speak to them about the gate, as although they stop people getting in they also can cause issues with the fire escape plan.

You could ask if they will upgrade your current front door to a composite secure door. We have Rock doors which look nice but are solid. With the locking hooks thrown i’m confident it would keep the bad guys out.

Ask your local police or housing association if they have a crime prevention officer, they often arrive with a bunch of freebies

****Edit - I wrote this post but it didn’t send until after your second post***

Unfortunately this sort of advice from the police is only going to encourage vigilanteism. I of course never endorse this, but if the state (which WE pay for) will not protect us, fulfilling its primary purpose, then what do we do? Just let criminals abuse us? Perhaps spending less money on policing social media for the terminally offended and more money on local policing.

The answer to that is of course up to each individual.

Sorry. That was a rant. But I really do empathise with your situation.

If you are not already doing so keep a diary of incidents as well as calls to HA and Police.

If you or the neighbours do fit a Ring device it will also record sound so make sure you save the footage to build a case.

It's hard to explain . The design of the bungalow is pretty strange. I have a public footpath between my neighbours house and mine, and we both have very narrow drives, so, for instance, I have to let passengers out before parking on the drive, my neighbour has to reverse up or he wouldn't be able to open his door.
Also means there is no real delineation between the drive and footpath, fences would be impossible.
Also our kitchens stick out onto the drive, which gives a great blind spot!
This footpath means that there are two access directions to my door. Left and right.
It's a realy awkward design. Looks good, but ....
I don't realy want photos of my home and that of my neighbours on the forum for many reasons including security and privicy. It's so hard to explain this odd design, so I'll try to draw a diagram and post that.
I still think a gate is the best idea. As for safety, Being a bungalow, egress from a window is relativly easy. I won't have to jump from a first floor.!

I have done in the past for years, they won't even look at photos when I'm waving my phone evidence under their noses!! Time to think again.
If they won't take witness and phone evidence, it's time for something else.

@Woody girl I can´t help but want to see if I understand.
You want something like this: You have a door that is pulled backwards from the wall and you want a steelgate like in this photo?

Oh, at last! that's exactly the sort of thing I'm thinking of.

Please,
Has anybody any brands/firms they can recommend, rather than any other suggestions.

To be honest, if I wanted a ring doorbell, or to keep a log that is a waste of time as its constantly ignored, or anything else, ...I'd have said !
I appreciate the attempts to think of an alternative solution, but its a bit like asking for a shopping bag, and being told, have a carrot. :(

A google of 'metal security gate for front door' give lots of results to explore.

I sympathise with you, WG; your neighbours sound horrendous. As police and HA aren't doing anything, have you considered involving your local councillor or MP? That might give those involved enough of a jolt to get things moving.
Last time I contacted my mp, several years ago..I never got a reply.
I think personal /home security is now our own responsibility. Authority doesn't want to know.

WG,
Your MP (or his office) is obliged to reply within five days.
They have a get out if you haven’t supplied the required information:
Name
Address Inc. post code that is within their constituency.
Telephone number.

Mine will duck out if I don’t include full address even though in my case, the post code is more accurate than road or village.

Correction: 10 working days.
