I've a hat. Excellent bit of kit, very warm and light. You hardly notice you're wearing it, except your head's warm of course!

My wife has some possum/merino sock and loves them. Very soft, light and warm.

Possums are definitely not protected here in NZ but they are in Aus. We shoot and trap them whenever we can. There's still quite a lucrative trade in possum fur and pelts here.

I'm sure you won't regret getting yourself something made from it

Your daughters friends family don't run a campsite near Dasey's Pass by any chance do they (from Maryland originally)?

BTY: Possum fur is really soft and not itchy at all.
