Ok, it's time to plant the bere barley, the plots prepared, the lads just weeded and I've time next week put as side for it.

as usual I can't get my head around the maths. If I want between 20 and 25 seeds a square foot, how far apart do the seeds need to go?.

One square foot is 144 square inches.

25 seeds spread out evenly would be 5.76"sq per seed or a square of 2.4"

20 seeds would each need a square 2.68"

Think of the rows of seeds. 20 seeds is 4 rows of five. So seed across 3 inches apart across and rows roughly 2.4 inches apart going down.
25 seeds means 2.4 apart across and 2.4 going down.

Cheers! That's that sorted! I think I'll make myself a template, holes big enough to poke a finger through to get the seeds a inch down. I know it's being precious but I need to get the most out of the seed I have from 2 years back.

Try making a V-sign that's comfortable, ie. not stretching your fingers apart; your finger tips will be about the right distance apart for your seed spacings.
