Making glass

After the initial excitement of melting aluminium in my home-made forge, I was wondering if these things can get hot enough to make simple glass from a mixture of wood ash and sand? Would just like to make a little blob for fun, not looking to get anything practical out of it. Failing that, are they hot enough to melt normal glass bottles?

if you get hold of Sodium carbonate decahydrate (Natron or soda salt,) you can lower the temp at which "forest glass" can be made. the Roman's made their glass out of Nitron and Sand.
