Hallo,

Is it possible to make fire with one hand, and which technics works . A few years ago i thougt only matches and lighters are a possibillity for one hand fire lighting.

A few months ago i discovered that it's quit easy to light your fire with a firesteel (ferocium rod / fireflash / light my fire or one off the other brands) with only one hand ,you need birch bark but i am convinced that it's possible with all the other tinder.

Put your birch bark down om the ground and sit down , place the birch bark for the sole of your shoe . The sole off your shoe now makes an angle of 90 degrees with the ground. Place your firesteel on the birchbark and let it rest with an angle of about 60 degrees against the sole of your shoe.

Take the back off your knive and scratch down along the firesteel , because of the pressure the firesteel won't drop . i use a fjallkniven F1 on my firesteel which gives a good deal of sparks.

It works for me with my weak and with my strong hand. I hope my explanation is clear if it isn't mail me and i can send a photograph.

Cheers Rob

Does a lens work on birchbark i never tried it? can you give me some more info on the blast match Buckshot ? Thanks for the sparklite link Neil.

Here's a challenge for the terminally bored. Try lighting a match with one hand. Daft I know, but still, it could prove to be a useful skill.

The twist: the match has to start off in the box. You have to open the box, get the match out, close the box AND light the match off the box all with one hand and without putting the box / match down (or using any other support).

There's no trick, just dexterity. I can do this in (just) under 10 seconds....yes, I was once very very bored.

Warning - remember that you'll probably burn your fingers at least once so if you're trying it out, don't do it over anything flammable. Stay safe now.
