I've just bought an old heavy duty Lucia sewing machine that does leather stitching for 40 quid, in excellent working condition.

Most of the vintage ones seem to be pretty much copies of the more popular Singer designs; there were many companies making these copies and some of them were very good indeed. See if you can post a picture or two, there's a fella further on down the valley that worked on commercial machines for years, and he migh know more.
