Looking for a basic course in Leeds for preference.

Would be interested in a basic metal working course.

Anyone know of any?

Thanks.

well im no exspert but would be willing (when i get my garage) to have some people come round for the day.....

it would only cost what materials you use, ie metal and sand paper etc.......depends on what you want to do ie learn, basic smithing or just make knife from flat stock (pre cut shape)........

just a thought, and as i said i am no exspert, a profesional course would always be the best option, dave budd is awesome and has helped me out a few times over the net........

regards to all...

chris.

That's a very kind offer and one I'll definitely take you up on. Might even bring you some eggs.

I'll drop you a pm so we can firm things up. I appreciate that you're not yet fully set up and so it won't be in the very near future.

I'd love to learn some basic smithing, but would be happy to start with some flat stock making.

Will drop you a pm. Cheers.

The Dave Budd course is amazing. I had one last weekend and it was brilliant. This weekend I spent making a sheath with the leather that he gave me. I would definitely choose him over any others in terms of knife making courses.

there are a few Blacksmith style courses about Dave Budd being one of them and one of the best ;)

there arnt many Stock removal courses tho i think Owen Bush on BB may do them along with forge courses as well

ive sort of though about it tho no expert but it can be a HSE night mare especially with machinery etc I would only be able to cope with 1-2 people at a time and to be honest could make far more than the course fees if i used the time to make my own stuff

that said its fun to help some one learn some thing (plus you learn a lot your self)
and I have done it with the odd mate for free so HSE doesn't apply (doesn't mean its not safe but it saves a lot of paperwork and sorting out the machines)

the only person I know who exclusively offers stock removal courses is (or was) Mik Wardell.

Both Owen and I specialise in forged blades and forging courses, but we are both able and willing to teach people to do stock removal too ;) I've had a couple of people come for stock removal classes, one refused to use power tools on account of not having access to them at home (so there was no point learning to use a grinder he hasn't got)
