Nowt suspicious at all; just some silly bushcrafter who ate too many beans and sat too close to the fire.
The first thing that sprung to mind when i heard about this last night was that someone had put a gas canister in the fire after they thought it was empty, as in few lads gone up there for a laugh had a few beers and thought it would be funny, but now the Police are saying a few suspect devices?,still think its was just idiots messing around in all likely hood.
Heck of an over reaction for messing about.....how come the local plod needed to draft in people from the Met' for that?

Like a few other crimes - the Met acts as a National force rather than just a London one. The co-ordinate at a national level that should be.
Due to the size of the Met they also act as a reserve for man-power ie off duty office get pulled in etc, where extra man power is needed anywhere in the country. I remember having a run in with Met officers at Stonehenge.

Anything that the media highlight as "explosion" or "blast". And we all know that's what terrorists do, right?
The media are a bunch of belthering eejits. It drives me nutty how they try and cause waves out of nonexistent stories. Start reporting when something newsworthy has actually happened !!

You have to remember that this story would be written from an official police statement, one that would not want to start a panic or a local witchunt against anyone with a middle eastern look or background as has happened in the past. If they are carrying out a fingertip search that would indicate the liklyhood that they have found evidence perhaps of a practice blast using some form of homemade IED. They ain't gonna spend a fortune in manpower and helicopters unless they are pretty sure of finding something.

Unless it was extra terrestial,(the locals thought it was like a firework),so there is some sort of 'official premise' about the matter.
How many times have the Police attended your fire after you've chucked the hairspray tin in the embers?...hmmmn..

Although some members of the public assumed it was just fireworks, others thought it loud enough or 'different' enough to report it to the police and they can't possibly just disregard it as kids mucking about.
Home grown would-be Jihadis have been known to use remote woodland for training (there's even vids on YouTube of them playing insurgents) and the attack on Glasgow airport was known to have been rehearsed in Scottish woods. The anti-terror chaps have to investigate - just in case.
