I have seen many threads talking about using leather strops "loaded " , some mentioned compound.

As I have never used a strop I am intrigued!
Is the compound people are talking about; polishing compound used on polishing disc etc and if so:-

which type is recomended eg green, pink, blue etc for general touching up of a knife?

and secondly how do you load up the strop? is it a case of just rubbing it onto the leather or is there something more involving?

I use a crayon type polishing compound made by flexcut, that you just rub onto the strop. Its yellow.. although i dont think the colour means much with this brand. Gives mirror like bevels easily on knives, chisels and gouges etc. this may not be the correct way of doing things- but its works for me and gives a very honed sharp edge.
