The next couple of shots are away from the river on one of the ponds on the Reservation. This particular pond is Duck pond Stephen (future SIL) and I took Carson fishing on this day:

Sorry for the sideways shot; It's how my daughter loaded it an I can't rotate it. This one was taken looking North across the pond toward the campsground.

Great pics Santaman, looks like a fun family day out. When you say military reserve is that a training ground? I'm amazed little Carson can see anything but his feet in that hat, but you've got to keep the sun off of them. Looks a nice bit of country you have around you, no wonder you enjoy your time outdoors.

TBH it was more than a single day. I'm just getting computor literate enough to be able to post some pix.

Yeah, that's correct about the reservation. Eglin AFB has a military reservation of approximately 265,000 acres stretching across three counties. There are actually a dozen or so auxilliary air fields on it (separate from the three main ones) as well as Camp Rudder (an Army Ranger training base for swamp training) and recently the 7th Special Forces have built a new base on the res. It's also used for bombing and aerial gunnery practice.

Much of it is open to public receation, hunting, and fishing with a permit from the natural resources office. Other areas are closed either for training requirements or due to fears of UXOs.

As well as Eglin's area, I have a State forest just north that's roughly the same size (Blackwater River State Forest) and abutting that at the State line is a National Forest (Conecuh National Forest in Southern Alabama) All open for the public. Both the State Forest and the National Forest have shooting ranges open to the public at no charge.
