Oh good link :D cheers for that.

I like roundhouses, they have a very different atmosphere to them; the air feels *softer*, scents are truer, the light is *real*and you feel part of the wider world instead of enclosed and cut off from it.

Intersting. Thanks for pointing it out Doc. There's also an interesting one on crofters that you can link to at the end.

Good link
It seems almost idilic. Unfortunatly i have a touch of the black dog tonight and can't help wondering about the whole thing. it would be wonderful if we could all live in such surroundings and circumstance but we live in a country where you need a license to light a fire and nearly every square foot of land is claimed.
Maybe it's good that not everyone wants to live like that as i fear there is only enough room for the brave.
I hate being pesimistic i realy do and I just as much as any would love to travel that path but i see a vision of patures green turning to trampled mud if we all decided to up and go to the forest.
Ok, SHOO dog, SHOO.
Sorry about the moan :)

Hello bilko,
I duno about being “pessimistic” I think I would say more realistic. However do you not think that perhaps it might work in the same was as people moving to the country?
I think we (shall we say more informed?) are quit a small proportion of the population and could be quit easily accommodated. If every one who had the conviction to do this did do it would there not be an equal proportion of empty houses? I think unless a large proportion of the general public suddenly changed there minds we would be ok. Anyway I like black dogs.

I would love to live like that, but as Bilko said there are far to many people in th UK for all to do it.
UK land area 244,820 square Km, population 60.2 million. That's about 245 people per square Km. Bags not having the square Km on he top of Ben Nevis.
However the young Nintendo generation probably wouldn't want to be without their electrickery, so that would reduce the competition. The young members of this site obviously not included.
Perhaps it's time to look to emigrate to a country with more space.
