Here is a knife i made. Less is more i think sometimes. The handle i made from old oak and brass bolster. The blade i made from carbon steel with some filework. What do you think??

Excuse the newbie questions but,

How do you get that pattern on top of the blade (I'm sure that there is a technical name for both the work and the area of the knife - sorry), is it just really careful file work or something else?

Also, how do you fix the blade into the handle? I understand how the knives work with two parts to the handle riveted through etc., but is this just fixed in place to a carved hole with adhesive?
