Hi all,
I'm making a large shelter for a display I'm doing in the summer.

the finished item i want to look like a Traditional canvas tent like this:

I'm going to use 2 British Army Issue DPM tarps but overlapped at the top.

the length of the tarp is 66" at 45deg to the ground.
but how long should my vertical tent pole be?
a simple maths question but i don't remember how to do it.

cheers

Personally I'd cut them longer.
I like to dig the butt end in a few inches and tie in at the top to the guy line with a clove hitch.
However the distance quoted is the distance between the ground and the edge of the tarp with one end on the ground and a 45 deg angle.

cheers for that, I hated maths at school.

I did just measure that and thought it might be short, but then i don't want the wind to catch it.
I'm planning on making some "dollies" wooden covers that will go over the spikes, which will have the clove hitch tied.
sort of like "old school" scout tents!

Cheers again.
