I had hitherto considered leatherman tools to be the equal in manufacture and quality control to the Victorinox SAKs and a cut above the cheaper rivals. However I have been given to revise that opinion today when a portion of the spring that holds the pliers of my leatherman squirt in place, broke off, rendering the tool of no further use since it is for the pliers that I have it in the first place, having found SAK pliers to be feeble, to say the least.

I do not know whether the larger tools are any less prone to breakage, but something must be up with the steel used, if eventually it will fail.

I doubt I shall be be replacing the squirt as all the other useful tools can be covered by something in the SAK classic range for inoffensive EDC on the end of a key ring. I have never rated the scissors to be better than those on an SAK classic anyway.

Since the principal purpose of my purchasing a squirt was for the pliers, I think the moral here apart from anything else, is, where and whenever you are likely to need a small pair of pliers handy, to carry a small pair of pliers.

Leatherman warranty is superb I just had a squirt replaced with brand new one

Seconded. They sent me a brand new Squirt (I think?) when the little spring on the scissors snapped off a while ago. Obviously these tools are pretty small, so not up to too much hard work, though saying that I think my scissors broke when I was doing something pretty minor like my fingernail or something. I still like to keep the tool in my work bag for little bits and pieces though.

I broke a Leatherman pliers using them as a plug spanner. I owned up to the abuse and not only was there no quibble, but got a brand new Leatherman in return completely FOC and had an upgrade after snapping a screwdriver on another. Get on to Whitby and become yet another satisfied Leatherman user. :)

I wonder what happens when you break something that's been discontinued... I doubt that the company keeps a stash of what it calls "retired products", just in case.

The tip has broken on the small screwdriver of my Supertool 200. From the look of it, the tools and blades are designed to be common across a wide range of saleable products, so maybe I can get just the screwdriver.

My second return that I’d broken was out of production and was replaced by it’s equivalent new model.

In the UK they do not do any repairs they normally replace with the newest version or nearest comparable tool. I sent a wave in with broken scissors and got a wave plus back. You would probably get a supertool 300

I had a Juice that was a special version - a combo that had two tools that were not available on another model. The replacement was less than what I sent in but at least it worked!

I sent my gerber sport back circ 2001 a few years back. Was replaced with a new one. I asked for my old on back as it was a present from my brother. I took the broken blade odd the new on and put it on the old. Kept the rest for spares.
