I would like to make myself some leather belt pouches and knife sheaths for woods walking and hunting but i can not find anywhere online that sells leather for craft supplies except in huge 50 square meter sizes.. Anyone point me in the right direction and give me a list of tools i might need for basic sowing/craft, nothing fancy just the basics.

Hi, and welcome to the site, " 50 square meters" man, I would,nt want to bump into that beast!:lmao:
Seriously, you can find small sections of hide on e-bay, which are great for starters and small projects.
There are plenty of past posts regarding starter tools, use the advanced search box at the top of the page
and you,ll find plenty of good info.

welcome aboard. as has been said try ebay, search for veg tan and you will get smaller sizes that should do.

basic list:

Something for cutting, i just use a stanley knife
Steel rule for cutting straight lines
Needles (at least 2 for saddle stitching)
Thread
Beeswax for the thread
Awl for making holes
A groover - for neat stitching
A stitch wheel (can use a fork)

A good way to get started is youtube tutorials, or check out leatherworker.net it is a really good forum for leatherwork.

For veg tan leather tandy are good if you get them on the phone. I got a 3.2 - 3.6 double shoulders grade 2 (Few marks etc, but very useable) for 40 quid, on the site 56 quid currently on sale.

Literally just bought a £56 double shoulder from there as I want to get into tooling and wanted a nice big chunk of cheap veg tan to practice on - make a few bookmarks, coasters, etc

I follow a few sellers on eBay that sell small sections of leather (as well as the big cuts) although have never bought any:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/grants-veg-tan-leathers

http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/uktannery (Edit: No longer registrered user - now shop4leather - below)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/shop4leather
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/leatherandstuff-shop (I have bought from here, a few pre-cut straps for belts although I think I'm going to get a gauge to cut my own in future - nothing on the seller just I like to try save money where I can!)
