I have a couple of US GI style water bottles.

Neither are water-tight, but they don't leak like a sieve either.

Generally, when full they will make the top 1/2 of their holders wet. In summer I guess this might actually cool their contents given the evaporation cooling effect, but the fact is it is annoying.

Has anyone had the same issue and fixed it? if so how?

Yep, I have a US water bottle and it has the same problem. I just put a suitable sized potable water o-ring in the cap. It's held in place by the thread and stops all leaks. I picked up one of those potable o-ring kits Lidl or Aldi have, I've used a few for various jobs so worth having.

I used silicone baking sheets. drew round the cap and cut out the circles and put them in the lids. No leaks now

I made one out of cork, but when it's dry it shrinks and falls out of the cap. A silicone baking sheet sounds just the job. Where do you buy something like that?
