Lauri and Polar whittler stcked birch bark handles

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Any chance of a top view of the jig you use to compress the handle?

I will ahow some pics soon. Though if you want to know there is a hole in the wooden piece to allow the tang to protrude.

I really like the slightly oval cross section of the leather stacked Estwing hammers and these are a natural progression from them.
Those look really nice.

Maybe they are as old as each other or then again birch bark handles have been about hundreds of years.

those are beauties! superb work really like those
Thanks mate

Im presuming the hole is large enough to be-able to pein the tang over alf??

Beautiful work as always Alf.
Still using my Steen Nilssen blade from you as my favourite carver.
Fits my hand so well and takes an edge beautifully. It's a keeper mate.
Cheers , Simon

After annealing the end of the tang I file it down to fit through a 3mm hole in the brass and pien it into a counter sunk area around the hole if that makes sense also the tang only needs to be about 3mm longer than the handle or it will hard to rivet.

Fantastic work Alf!! love these blades and you have done a fantastic job with the bark handles :)
